Networking Tips - Arriving prepared
You should treat a networking event as you would any other business meeting. Arriving rushed and ill-equipped will just show you to be lacking in professionalism. So what are the basics? Business cards, for a start. I'm always - and way too often - surprised by the number of people who have genuinely forgotten to bring a supply of business cards to a networking event with them. It always makes me wonder how serious they are about doing business. It's also handy to have a spare name badge on you, in case the hosts have missed your booking or have spelled your name incorrectly, or have produced badges with the text on them far too small to read. If you're a nervous networker, consider ariving early to avoid being intimidated by a full crowd. You are also more likely to get a personal introduction to someone from the host if they have a bit of time to give you that personal attention. But don't feel you have to dive straight in - it's OK to take a little time to get settled and peruse the delegate list. |
