Networking Tips - Approaching People If you're a nervous networker, you will probably feel anxious about approaching strangers. You shouldn't; everyone at that networking event wants to meet someone new - and that includes you. You won't be intruding on them if you go up and say "hello". Look for groups of people with an open stance that leaves a gap for you to approach them. Closed groups of people are harder to approach and are probably engrossed in a conversation of them own - and quite possibly not very good networkers too. You could try looking out for someone who looks as nervous as you feel. They'll be particularly grateful that someone has helped ease them into the event and you'll both feel much more comfortable. Don't forget to introduce yourself clearly. There will be enough hubbub in the room so make sure you give everyone the chance to hear your name. It will save them the embarrassment of having to pretend they heard!
